A new update for Trezor Suite has just been released to download from suite.trezor.io . This is a non-essential update that introduces some new features, including replace-by-fee (RBF) for ETH, and improves elements of the user experience.

Please note that an update has been released since this blog was first published. The latest version of Trezor Suite is version 21.3.2.

If you have not yet updated to Trezor Suite 21.2.1 or later, please make sure you update to the latest version of suite before the next major update. This will allow updates to be carried out directly from within Trezor Suite in future.

RBF for Ethereum transactions

Last month we launched the replace by fee feature for Bitcoin, which allows you to bump the fee on unconfirmed sent transactions to achieve quicker confirmations. This month, we’re doing the same for ETH!

Given the recent spikes in average gas fees, Ethereum transactions have been costing some users tens or even hundreds of dollars a pop. Now, with RBF enabled for ETH, you can send a transaction at a comfortable price and later increase the fee if there is trouble getting the transaction to confirm.

Speed up an Ethereum transaction by increasing gas fees

When you next go to your Ethereum wallet in Trezor Suite and send a transaction like normal, you will be shown a new option, ‘Bump Fee’ on the pending, unconfirmed transaction.

If the transaction confirms quickly enough, then great! But if it stays stuck as pending, you can click on Bump fee to open a dialogue that will let you change the fee setting.

In the screenshot above, the previous fee of 5 gwei is being increased to 100 gwei, based on average prices at the time. You can check the current average gas prices using free tools such as Etherscan Gas Tracker, or see how long a custom fee might take using the ETH Gas Station calculator. Based on Etherscan, the 100 gwei transaction should take under 10 minutes to confirm.

To continue and confirm the newly-set fee hit ‘Replace transaction’ and confirm the new fee on your Trezor hardware wallet. The previous unconfirmed transaction will be replaced with an identical one that has a higher gas fee assigned.

Other updates

A number of small fixes and improvements have been made to Trezor Suite. For a full list, please refer to the changelog. One notable change is the ability to hide the portfolio graph from view on your Dashboard, reducing the amount of information shown on startup.

A bug where accounts with a non-zero balance were being marked as empty has been fixed. We have also managed to rectify an issue where incorrect balances were sometimes shown for tokens which share the same ticker symbol. Token balances will now also be properly included in calculating the portfolio balance shown on your Dashboard.

To help prepare for Trezor Suite to move out of beta and replace Trezor Wallet, we will be soon be providing updates directly through Trezor Suite. To make sure that you can choose to receive these updates, please make sure you are running Trezor Suite version 21.2.1 or later.
