Enjoyed the reminiscing photo report? Well, that was not the last time you have heard of our Hackathon. Why too, forget about the few days in Prague, right?

More importantly though, the most intriguing question was left unanswered in the previous post. But not for any longer! Let’s have a look at the third day of the Hackathon, the results and, of course, our winners!

Catching up with some last minute coding, and preparing the presentations for the afternoon: these were the main tasks of the day.
But sooner than enough, time was up. Ready for the showcase of work?

Top 3

Third Place: Crypt-AllAuth

Django-allauth is probably the most used user-management Django application and yet it lacked TREZOR support. We fixed it.

Second Place: Steem Integration with TREZOR

Steem, as well as Bitshares, mostly uses online web wallets, where the private keys are handled in the browser. This provides reasonably security but since many users don’t feel comfortable exposing their private keys or passwords to their browsers, we wanted to add Steem support to the TREZOR. The TREZOR combines security with convenience and is the perfect choice for security conscious Steem users! During the Hackathon we were able to successfully sign and broadcast a transaction using the TREZOR so now we intend to work towards a full TREZOR support in the coming weeks and months.

First Place: Password Manager for Android

Carry your passwords anywhere with the Password Manager for Android. Mobile usage has overgrown computer usage, and nowadays tablets and mobile devices are everywhere. There’s no excuse, start now and store your passwords securely with TREZOR and your Android device.

But there were more interesting works. The Hackathon is not just about the winners but rather about everyone who has dedicated their time to this event. Thank you all for participation!

Inheriting Bitcoin

When you die, all your Bitcoins are lost. Most people would like to let their children inherit their property. We were researching properties of different schemes and concluded that on-chain time-locked transactions seem like the most secure way to do it. To really implement this, we need to wait until SegWit is activated, which should be soon (hopefully).

Kavabongaa

Cloud storages, as we know today, are convenient but not very secure. Encrypting the whole drive is secure until the your master key is compromised. But with Kavabongaa and TREZOR you will be able to combine two level encryption of cloud storage files, with a method very similar to the one used in TREZOR Password Manager, and safely host your data on cloud. Convenience and security combined!

Redesign of TREZOR.io

Public understanding about cryptocurrency and security is very low, so more is needed when you try to explain why and when TREZOR is needed. So I took current page, sliced into chunks, rewrote, rearranged into story based points. Explanation and essential understanding (encrypt & decrypt) is what can help all blockchain-based products.

Development of TREZOR 2

Marek (slush) and the rest of the team continued with the development of TREZOR 2, incorporating features from the TREZOR 1, and myTREZOR. One of the most important things was the work on backward compatibility of the second TREZOR with the first-generation. This reaffirms that even with the 2, support and functionality of 1 will continue the way it is today: maximum security with no compromises to convenience.
