An update for Trezor Suite (version 22.8.2) and firmware updates for Trezor Model T (version 2.5.2) and Trezor Model One (version 1.11.2) hardware wallets are now ready to install.

As of this August update, we will be releasing new updates in stages, so you may not receive the update prompt until several days after this announcement.

To download and apply these updates, open Trezor Suite and follow the on-screen instructions. Please note that the Model One firmware update includes a fix for a potential security issue and updating your device is recommended.

Trezor Suite is free to use on desktop or browser at suite.trezor.io

Enable the Early Access Program in Application Settings to test new features before public release.

Bitcoin-only firmware

Whether you’re a maximalist or just like to keep things in their right place, Bitcoin-only firmware is the easiest way to declutter your Trezor and focus on what matters to you. Optimize device performance when signing transactions and keep your bitcoin keys completely separate from other blockchains.

Bitcoin-only firmware has been available to advanced users since 2019 through the trezorctl command-line interface. To encourage less technical users to make the switch, you can now install Bitcoin-only firmware directly from Trezor Suite, making it quick and easy to change.

To set up Bitcoin firmware, open Trezor Suite and go to Device Settings. Scroll down to the Firmware section, and click the button Switch to Bitcoin.

Change between Universal firmware and Bitcoin-only firmware at any time in Device Settings.

While it’s recommended to set up a new seed for your bitcoin-only device, you can simply replace your standard firmware with bitcoin-only and all of your non-bitcoin cryptocurrencies will remain safe and secure, you just won’t be able to use them while bitcoin firmware is installed. Any coins you may have staked will remain staked until you reload the standard firmware and manually unstake them.

The main advantages of installing Bitcoin-only firmware are: faster coin discovery in Trezor Suite, less potential for bugs, isolation from issues caused by other cryptocurrencies, and a sense of supporting Bitcoin’s cause.

Notes and limitations

  • When loading the Bitcoin firmware on your Trezor Model T, you must first have firmware version 2.1.0 or newer installed on your device.
  • Trezor devices running the Bitcoin-only firmware cannot be used as two-factor authentication tokens (U2F/WebAuth).

Firmware changes

Trezor Model T (version 2.5.2)

Fee rate in sat/vByte is now shown on the Trezor screen alongside total fee on the device when signing a transaction.

The fee rate shown under the total amount. This example uses Testnet coins.

Large numbers now use a comma separator for figures above one thousand, making it easier to read values when sending larger amounts of cryptocurrency.

Support has been added for Monero v15 (hard fork 15) features.

Support has been added for Cardano Babbage-era transaction items

Choice of “Show All” or “Show Simple” has been added to Cardano transaction signing.

Decred transaction weight calculation has been fixed.

Trezor Model One (version 1.11.2)

Fee rate in sat/vByte is now shown on the Trezor screen alongside total fee on the device when signing a transaction.

Large numbers now use a comma separator for figures above one thousand, making it easier to read values when sending larger amounts of cryptocurrency.

This firmware version fixes a potential security issue which was present in the recovery workflow.

A potential key extraction vulnerability in Cothority Collective Signing (CoSi) has also been fixed, along with a nonce bias which was found in CoSi.
